Clement Clarke Moore was an American scholar, writer, and professor of Oriental and Greek literature at Columbia College. He is best known for his poem "A Visit from St. Nicholas," also known as "The Night Before Christmas," which was first published anonymously in 1823. Moore's poem helped popularize and shape the modern image of Santa Claus. Moore's contributions to literature include his creation of enduring characters and traditions that have become integral parts of Christmas celebrations around the world.
