In the 120 years since they first came on the scene motorcycles have been used as a means of basic and affordable transport, they have appeared in all kinds of sporting roles, for work and play, and for use in times of war. While many books look at the history of the machines themselves, in this new book the author turns his readers' attention to the social history of motorcycling, and by including over 250 photographs, he brings new insight into the impact that motorcycles have had on our everyday lives, from fashion through to the appearance of social groups such as mods and rockers.
